Scorsese to exec produce gang tale
EXCLUSIVE: Martin Scorsese has boarded Hong Kong helmer Andrew Lau’s “Revenge of the Green Dragons” as an exec producer.
Pic adapts Fredric Dannen’s New Yorker article about a murder investigation involving the Asian Green Dragons gang in New York City’s Chinatown.
Lau will co-direct with Andrew Loo while the 7th Floor’s Allen Bain and Jesse Scolaro will produce with Michael Bassick of Markmedia Worldwide. Lau and Loo co-produce. Scorsese exec produces alongside Ara Katz and Artfire’s Artur Spiegel.
Stuart Ford’s IM Global will shop international rights; John Sloss and Bart Walker at Cinetic are handling U.S. rights.
Lensing will begin in New York this winter.
Scorsese is repped by Rick Yorn and WME while Lau is managed by New School Media.
IM Global enjoyed brisk sales this year in Cannes. It sold James Wan’s low-budet “Spectre” to a slew of territories including Canada (via Alliance Films), the U.K. (Momentum Pictures) and Spain (Aurum).
Alliance picked up Sam Worthington starrer “The Last Days of American Crime” from IM Global for the same three countries.
Ford’s outfit also closed a raft of international deals on the adaptation of Brit hit TV show “The Inbetweeners” including Germay (Square One), France (French Connection) and Australia (Village Roadshow).
