Mendes previously attached to comicbook adaptation
D.J. Caruso has signed on to helm Columbia Pictures’ “Preacher.” The director announced his participation late Monday via Twitter.
Based on the late ’90s comicbook series by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, “Preacher” tells the story of a jaded preacher who embarks on a violent quest across America in search of God. Pic’s adaption is by John August.
Caruso’s most recent directorial effort, DreamWorks’ “I Am Number Four,” took in north of $20 million through Monday. “Four” helped make Caruso a top contender for the “Preacher” helming gig; Sam Mendes was first attached to direct the film.
Sony-based Neal Moritz is producing through his Original Film banner alongside Kickstart Pros.’ Jason Netter. Ken Levin and Ori Marmur exec produce.
