“Bollywood: The Greatest Love Story Ever Told” has been added to the Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival, where it will play out of competition.
Produced by Indian filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, and directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra (“Rang de basanti”) and Jeff Zimbalist (“The Two Escobars”), the documentary “brings together the most beautiful moments in the history of Indian musical films, with all their moving pageantry and dance,” according to a statement released by the fest.
Kapur came up with the idea of making the doc while serving on last year’s Cannes jury.
Pic pays “tribute to this cinema genre that has contributed to establishing India’s identity in the eyes of the world and to making Mumbai one of the world capitals of film history,” fest execs said in the release.
Cannes will run May 11-22.
