Canal Plus nabs ‘World Without End’

Miniseries based on Ken Follett bestseller

CANNES — French pay TV giant Canal Plus has acquired miniseries “World Without End,” based on Ken Follett’s bestseller.

Helmed by Michael Caton-Jones, the eight-part historical skein stars Miranda Richardson, Peter Firth and Cynthia Nixon.

Budgeted at $44 million, it is shooting in Budapest and will appear on Canal Plus in late 2012. Tandem Communications, Scott Free Films and Take 5 Prods. are producing.

Set in 19th century England, the show is a sequel to the miniseries “Pillars of the Earth,” which Canal Plus aired in December. Show has also been pre-bought by Germany’s ProSiebenSat.1, Spain’s Cuatro, Austria’s ORF, Sky Italia, U.K.’s Channel 4 and Germany’s Universum Film. – — Elsa Keslassy
