Bill Pohlad, John Wells developing movie about Beach Boys founder
Bill Pohlad and John Wells are joining forces on biopic about Beach Boys founder Brian Wilson and have tapped Oren Moverman to script.
Pohlad’s River Road Entertainment announced Thursday that it had secured the life rights of the singer-producer as well as those of his wife Melinda Wilson.
Moverman, who co-wrote and directed “The Messenger,” is currently writing the script. River Road founder Bill Pohlad and John Wells Prods. will produce, with Jim Lefkowitz exec producing.
The announcement noted that Wilson wrote 15 Top 40 singles along with the iconic “Pet Sounds” album before suffering a nervous breakdown during the making of the follow-up album “Smile.” “The film will take an unconventional look at Wilson’s unique musical process as well as his struggles with mental illness, and how he managed to persevere as an artist with the love and support of his wife Melinda,” the producers said in a statement.
Moverman recently completed LAPD saga “Rampart,” which he co-wrote and directed, amd is working on an untitled Kurt Cobain Project for Working Title and Universal.
River Road produced Terrence Malick’s “The Tree of Life” and Wells made his feature directing debut last year with “The Company Men.”
Moverman is repped by WME and NY Office.
