Both films snag three nods each from MPSE Reel Awards

“Black Swan” and “Inception” led the film pack in the Motion Picture Sound Editors‘ Golden Reel Awards nominations announced today.

Both films snagged sound editing noms in the feature film music, DX & ADR and FX & Foley categories. Other nominees in the film music category are “Alice in Wonderland,” “Get Low,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1,” “Let Me In,” “The Losers” and “The Social Network.”

In the animated film category, box office heavyweights “Despicable Me,” “How to Train Your Dragon” and “Toy Story 3″ received noms as well as “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole,” indie pic “The Illusionist” and Disney’s “Tangled.” Seven docus were also recognized this year: “Babies,” “Catfish,” “Exit Through the Gift Shop,” “Inside Job,” “Restrepo,” “Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage” and “Waiting for Superman.”

Receiving mentions for sound editing in a musical were “Burlesque,” “Country Strong,” “Step Up 3D” and “Tangled” all received noms.

The adaptations of Stieg Larsson’s “The Girl Who Played With Fire” and “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” earned noms for sound editing in a foreign-language feature, as did “Biutiful,” “Lebanon,” “Micmacs,” “Mother” and “North Face.”

AMC’s breakout hit “The Walking Dead” came out ahead in television with four noms, including TV longform DX & AR, TV longform FX & Foley, TV shortform DX & ADR and TV shortform FX & Foley. “Human Target,” “The Tudors” and “True Blood” also picked up noms in the TV shortform DX & ADR and FX & Foley categories.

Special honors will go to producer Brian Grazer and sound designer-editor Walter Murch. Grazer will be hailed with the MPSE filmmaker nod and Murch will receive a career achievement laurel.

Winners will be anounced Feb. 20 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles.
