Disney sequel preems in Hollywood
Disney’s “Cars 2” made a pit stop in Hollywood on Saturday for the toon’s premiere. Helmer and Mouse House animation chief John Lasseter, along with voice talent Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, Eddie Izzard, and Emily Mortimer, walked down a road carpet on Hollywood Boulevard flanked by bleachers filled with fans of cardboard car cutouts.
Event embraced film’s overseas road trip by turning the fields behind El Capitan into a World Grand Prix for the afterparty, complete with games, vintage car displays and towering facades replicating locations from the film, including Tokyo, the Italian Riviera and London’s Big Ben(tley). Venue, which includes a toy-filled store, stays open through Aug. 28.
Premiere’s scale fit the film’s ambitious production. “This is Pixar’s biggest film ever, in terms of scope,” said producer Denise Ream. “There are more sets, more locations, more f/x shots, more crowd shots. We didn’t focus on breaking any technological ground, but everything was just bigger.”
