Ben Foster on Tilda Swinton in ‘We Need to Talk About Kevin’

SAG Preview 2011: Actors on Actors

“Those eyes. Eyes like wind tunnels. Watching her work is like witnessing a master glass blower. She glows from within, changing shape, twisting and expanding, each performance impossibly unique. Tilda Swinton’s breathtaking turn in ‘We Need to Talk About Kevin’ should be required viewing for all actors seeking the inner life expressed. We follow her 18 years as she rears and bears the guilt of parenting a child whose humanity is all but supernaturally absent. Tilda communicates the unbearable with the fewest of words, her entire body transmitting the full color spectrum with the slightest of gesture. Her work in this film reminds me of the great silent film stars. Commanding the frame with an unusual human intelligence, her underlying humor is ever present, even while falling into the greatest depths of grief. We can sense a soul that seems to have no bottom and it is a gift to witness a talent that has no limit.”
