Cast gathers to celebrate film and reminisce
New York– The premiere of Tom McCarthy’s third film, “Win Win,” turned March 16 into jock night.
Patricia Clarkson, Tony Gilroy, Darren Aronofsky, Gabourey Sidibe, Melanie Lynskey, Kyra Sedgwick and John Slattery joined pic’s Paul Giamatti and Amy Ryan at the SVA Theater to screen the Fox Searchlight film.
From a story by McCarthy and Joe Tiboni, “Win Win” stars Giamatti as a struggling attorney who moonlights as a high school wrestling coach.
After the screening, revelers, including a few of the cast’s athletes, squeezed into the Chelsea Room for champagne, Red Bull and an impressive selection of tarts.
The basement bar with its low ceilings, the Clash blaring and heavy congestion brought McCarthy back to his teen days. “It’s like I’m at a really cool high school party that I was never invited to at a very rich person’s house,” helmer said.
Despite giving a performance that night in the previewing Broadway play “The Motherfucker With the Hat,” pic’s Bobby Cannavale made sure he didn’t miss out on the festivities.
“My son is here and he hadn’t seen the movie, so I rushed down after the show to get his review,” said the thesp.
