Asner sticks to ‘Principal’

Thesp to star in legal thriller

Ed Asner will topline indie courtroom drama-thriller “The Doppelganger Principle,” produced by Tiffany Guinn, Jan Welt and Ron Holmstrom.

Shooting’s set to begin in the fall on “Doppelganger,” which will be filmed entirely in Alaska. Holmstrom will direct from a script by James E. McLain.

Asner will portray a tough but lovable criminal defense attorney who’s diabetic, overweight, bombastic, witty and a major pain to the Alaska justice system. His newest client is charged with being a vicious serial killer with iron-clad evidence against him.

Asner’s also in “Too Big to Fail” for HBO, directed by Curtis Hanson; and comedy “Elephant Sighs,” directed by Ed Simpson.

Asner will be appearing in his one-man show “FDR,” which he’s been doing for a year and a half, at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday.

Asner’s repped by Greene & Associates Talent Agency and managed by Perry Zimel.
