Asian Project Market unveils lineup

Harada, Nimibutr, Lin pix selected

South Korea’s Busan Film Festival has unveiled 30 projects selected for its Asian Project Market.

Formerly known as the Pusan Promotion Plan, APM presents a diverse groups of pics, including projects from vets Lin Cheng-seng from Taiwan, Masato Harada from Japan and Nonzee Nimibutr from Thailand.

Lin will present “27 — Loaf Rocks,” a story about a legendary baker.

In “East Wind, Rain,” Harada (“Inugami”) portrays a Japanese family who lived in Hawaii during WWII, while Nimibutr (“Legend of the Tsunami Warrior”) presents psycho-thriller “Distortion.”

APM also includes a slew of projects by up-and-coming Korean directors. These include Park Jung-bum, who won Busan fest’s New Currents Award and Rotterdam Fest’s Tiger Award with his debut, “The Journals of Musan.” He will present “Alive,” which was one of the 2010 Asian Cinema Fund selections.

Park Chan-kyong, who won the short film award at this year’s Berlinale with “Night Fishing,” will introduce a horror film titled “When the Bell Rings Itself” (working title), based on Korea’s traditional shamanism.

APM also includes several other genre projects, a departure from the fest’s preference for auteur films. Indonesia’s Mo brothers helm “Killers,” a Japan-Indonesia co-produced horror film about a killer who exhibits his murders on the Internet. Korea’s veteran action helmer Ryoo Seung-wan introduces spy film, “Berlin” (working title).

International co-productions in the lineup include Taiwanese helmer Wayne Chang’s “Legend of T-Dog,” Korean helmer Hur Jin-ho’s “Dangerous Liaisons” and “Southeast Lovers,” an omnibus film by several renowned Southeast Asian directors.

APM will be held Oct. 10-13 alongside the Busan fest, which runs Oct. 6-14.
