The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences will pay tribute to Sophia Loren with a May 4 gala.
Film clips, remarks from Loren’s friends and colleagues and an onstage conversation with Loren will celebrate the actress’s life and career at “An Academy Tribute to Sophia Loren.”
Loren first made her mark in cinema with dozens of Italian films, then earned her first Academy Award in 1961 for “Two Women.” She was again nominated for 1964’s “Marriage Italian Style” and starred in several nominated films, including “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” (1964) and “A Special Day” (1977.) The Academy previously presented Loren with an honorary Oscar in 1990.
Loren last appeared on the bigscreen in “Nine” in 2009.
Tickets for the tribute, to be held at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater, will be available April 1.
