Alive Mind gets ‘Crazy Wisdom’

Kino label takes North American rights

Kino Lorber’s label focused on spirituality and culture, Alive Mind Cinema, has picked up North American rights (minus TV) to documentary “Crazy Wisdom: The Life and Times of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche.”

Johanna Demetrakas’ film about the controversial figure who helped bring Buddhism to the West has been playing at Gotham’s Himalayan art-centric Rubin Museum of Art since Nov. 25, where it had racked up a gross of more than $20,000 on one screen as of Dec. 3. Pic, which plays at the Rubin through Dec. 18, also opened at the Laemmle Santa Monica 4-Plex on Dec. 2.

Alive Mind plans to screen the doc in other theaters and cultural venues through the spring, with a DVD and digital release targeted for later in 2012.
