Academy grant to Telluride

Funds will go toward guest director program

For the fourth consecutive year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has awarded a grant to the Telluride Film Festival’s guest director program.

The $50,000 grant will support the 2011 program featuring musician Caetano Veloso, whose credits including the performance of “Cucurrucucu Paloma” in the Oscar-winning pic “Talk to Her.”

Past guest directors who have worked at the fest under the Acad’s funding include scribe Michael Ondaatje, helmer Alexander Payne and political philosopher Slavoj Zizek.

“The guest director program brings added depth and a rare variety of films to the festival,” said Telluride co-director Julie Huntsinger. “The generous support from the Academy and our ongoing partnership allows us to continue working with brilliant artists.”

Fest runs from Friday to Monday in Telluride, Colo.
