Five films vie for Shasha, $100,000

The Abu Dhabi Film Commission has announced the finalists for its fifth Shasha Grant, an international screenwriting competition worth $100,000 to the winner.

The finalists, who answered the call for feature-length scripts in Arabic and English, are “3000 Nights” by Mai Masri, Palestinian territories; “The Grave Digger,” Khadar Ahmed, Somalia; “Nothing Doing in Baghdad,” Maysoon Pachachi, UAE and Iraq; “Red Valentine,” Amin Matalqa, Jordan and the U.S.; “Asmahan,” Ziad Hamzeh, Syria and the U.S.; and “Blessed Benefit,” Mahmoud Al Massad, Jordan.

The Film Commission will also help the winner secure production financing.
