Joins Tatum, Hill and Ice Cube in remake

Rob Riggle is in negotiations to play the main villain in Columbia Pictures’ action comedy “21 Jump St.”

Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill star as undercover cops assigned to work in schools. Ice Cube is set to play the police chief, while Brie Larson will play the female lead.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller are directing from their own screenplay.

Neal Moritz is producing, while Tatum and Hill will exec produce the pic, which is based on the Fox series that ran from 1987 to 1991 and helped launched Johnny Depp’s career. Series co-creator and exec producer Stephen J. Cannell will receive a posthumous credit on the pic, which is scheduled to start production later this month.

Riggle recently appeared in “The Other Guys,” “Going the Distance” and “Killers.” He’ll soon be seen alongside Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts in Universal’s “Larry Crowne,” as well as Drew Barrymore pic “Everybody Loves Whales.” Thesp is also set to voice a role in Illumination Entertainment’s adaptation of Dr. Seuss tale “The Lorax.”

Riggle is repped by CAA and Principato Young Management.
