Wide Management nabs ‘Last Days In Jerusalem’

Will rep international sales for Abu Wael's tale of a Palestinian couple in Jerusalem

PARIS — French sales company Wide Management has acquired Tawfik Abu Wael’s drama “Last Days In Jerusalem” for international sales. “Last Days” centers on an upper-class Palestinian couple living in East Jerusalem.

Pic, which bowed in competition at Locarno festival, plays in the Contemporary World Cinema at Toronto. “Last Days” is produced by French outfit Sophie Dulac Productions and Israeli shingle Lama Films.

Abu Wael’s previous film, “Thirst” won Cannes’ Fipresci nod in 2004.

Wide Management has also acquired Iranian filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof’s “Goodbye” to rep the film in Canada and the U.S.. “Goodbye” bowed at Cannes’ Un Certain Regard and earned Rasoulof a best director nod.

Meanwhile, Wide Management’s documentary branch, Wide House, has picked up Atea and Mohamed Al Daradji’s “In My Mother’s Arms,” which follows two boys who have lost their parents in the war and are living in a small orphanage in Baghdad’s most precarious neighborhood. Set to open in the Real to Reel section at Toronto, “Arms” marks the followup to “Son of Babylon” for Mohamed Al Daradji, who was named Variety’s Middle East Filmmaker of the year in 2010.

Anais Clanet, head of sales at Wide House, said she was in advanced negotiations with Canadian and U.S. buyers. Clanet added she was looking to ink theatrical and pay TV deals at Toronto.

Other Toronto titles on Wide Management’s slate include “This Is Not A Film,” the underground documentary feature co-directed by Jafar Panahi and Mojtaba Mirtahmasb, who was just banned by Iranian authorities from travelling outside the country.
