Veloso named guest director at Telluride

Helmer will select series of films for fest

Telluride Film Festival has announced Caetano Veloso as its 2011 guest director, where the artist will select a series of films to present at the 38th annual fest.

Festival directors Tom Luddy, Gary Meyer and Julie Huntsinger select a film enthusiast to join them collaborating on the program.

Caetano Veloso founded the Tropicalismo movement, has over 100 film and television credits and recieved a Grammy in 1999 for “Livro.”

Past guest directors include Alexander Payne, Salman Rushdie, Peter Bogdanovich, Laurie Anderson and Stephen Sondheim.

As is tradition with the Telluride Film Festival, Veloso’s selected films, as well as the reamining lineup, will remain a secret until opening day on Sept. 2.
