Filmmaker's 'Newlyweds' set for world premiere

The latest Edward Burns pic, “Newlyweds,” is set to close the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival.
Film will be the sixth from writer-helmer Burns to have its world preem at Tribeca, including “Ash Wednesday,” which screened during the first Tribeca fest in 2002, and last year’s “Nice Guy Johnny.”
“Newlyweds,” in which Burns also stars, follows a recently married couple who find themselves caught up in the turbulent lives of the spouses’ various relations. Thesps Caitlin Fitzgerald, Max Baker, Marsha Dietlein Bennett and Kerry Bishe also are among the cast of the pic, most of which was shot in the lower Manhattan nabe of Tribeca.
Burns produces with Aaron Lubin and William Rexer, with Mike Harrop on board as exec producer.
“Newlyweds” is set to bow April 30 at the Borough of Manhattan Community College’s Tribeca Performing Arts Center. Tenth annual fest runs April 20-May 1.
