ROME — Italo helmer Michele Placido, whose Fox-produced gangster movie “Vallanzasca — Angels of Evil” bows in Italy this week, will shoot Gallic actioner “Le Guetteur” (The Lookout) for StudioCanal, with Daniel Auteuil and Mathieu Kassovitz in advanced talks to star.
Filming will start in Paris in June on the €18.6 million ($25 million) budget pic, according to co-producer Fabio Conversi of Paris-based Babe Films.
This is Placido’s first foray into Gallic filmmaking. He described the pic as “harking back to the great French actioners of the 1960s,” kicking off with a heist in Paris.
Auteuil, among Gaul’s most popular stars, is in talks to play a police chief while helmer-thesp Kassovitz is in negotiations for its lead gangster role.
Helmer-thesp Placido drew notice as a director in France with his hit 2005 mob movie “Romanzo Criminale” (Crime Novel).
Shepherded by Sanford Panitch, “Vallanzasca — Angels of Evil,” a biopic about Milan mob boss Renato Vallanzasca, is Fox Intl. Prods.’ first Italian project.
