Beresford film leads festival's initial slate
The Catherine Keener-Jane Fonda starrer, bowing in Toronto next month, joins a preliminary lineup that also includes the world preems of “Coming Up Roses,” Lisa Albright’s mother-daughter drama starring Bernadette Peters, and Meni Elias’ Israeli farming doc “Fat Cows Lean Cows.”
Ellen Barkin topliner “Another Happy Day” also has a slot in the fest, which will award Barkin the WFF Excellence in Acting kudo. Meera Gandhi’s humanitarianism doc “Giving Back” will receive a special screening, with local resident Mark Ruffalo to draw the fest’s first Meera Gandhi Giving Back award for his anti-fracking community activism.
Robin Bronk, topper of arts advocacy org Creative Coalition, will take home WFF’s honorary trailblazer laurel.
The initial slate announcement, with further offerings to come, also includes Emilio Aragyn’s narrative feature “Paper Birds” and Dani Menkin and Yonatan Nir’s doc “Dolphin Boy.”
The 12th annual WFF runs Sept. 21-Sept. 25, with the award ceremony set for Sept. 24. Screenings and other events are held at venues in Woodstock, N.Y. as well as nearby Rhinebeck, Rosendale and Kingston.
