KWA picks up San Seb contender ‘Ulysses’

Chilean social drama plays in Horizontes Latinos sidebar

MADRID — Sales company Kevin Williams Associates has taken worldwide rights outside Chile on Oscar Godoy’s immigration drama “Ulysses,” which competes in the San Sebastian festival’s Horizontes Latinos sidebar.

Turning on a Peruvian immigrant trying to make a life for himself in Chile, “Ulysses” portrays an unusual immigration story, where the immigrant changes his country for emotional rather than economic reasons.

“Ulysses” is produced by Pablo and Juan de Dios Larrain’s Santiago de Chile-based art pic company Fabula, in association with Hernan Musaluppi’s Buenos Aires-based Rizoma Films.

Pic marks Venezuelan-born helmer Godoy’s first narrative feature, which he co-penned alongside Daniel Laguna.

KWA also handles international rights to another San Sebastian pic, comedy “An Almost Perfect World,” helmed by Esteban and Jose Miguel Ibarretxe, which screens in Zinemira, fest’s Basque film section.

Aiming to increase its business with Latin America and North America, KWA is increasingly interested in picking up Latin American movies, said KWA founder Kevin Williams.

One of KWA’s most recent acquisitions for international sales has been the Dominican Republic-Puerto Rico co-production “La Hija natural,” a father-daughter drama by first-time helmer-writer Leticia Tonos.
