“Killer Elite” helmer Gary McKendry has reteamed with scribe Matt Sherring and producer Sigurjon Sighvatsson for an English-lingo remake of French thriller “Joseph and the Girl.”
Sighvatsson’s Palomar Pictures acquired remake rights to the 2010 pic last year. McKendry and Sherring are writing the script, about an aging con artist who plots a casino heist with the daughter of his former cellmate.
Budgeted at $30 million-$40 million, pic will be shot in the U.S.
“Killer Elite,” toplined by Jason Statham, Robert De Niro and Clive Owen and distribbed by Open Road, preems in Toronto today.
“The French version is strongly character based,” Sighvatsson told Variety. “And while Gary and Matt have a strong sense of character form for the script it will also be refocused as more of an action-thriller in the vein of ‘Getaway.'”
