IM Global has hired “The Last Exorcism” director Daniel Stamm to helm “13,” its remake of the Thai horror thriller “13: Game of Death.”
IM Global CEO Stuart Ford made the announcement Monday at the Toronto Film Festival and said he’s hoping to go into production early next year.
Stamm is working with writing partner David Birke to adapt the screenplay.
The original follows a financially strapped salesman who receives an anonymous phone call informing him that he’s on a hidden-camera gameshow and must execute 13 tasks to receive a multimillion-dollar cash prize.
Ford and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones of Automatik, the company’s production joint venture with Alliance Films, will produce alongside Kiki Miyake. Miyake’s Little Magic banner initially brought the widely pursued project to IM Global VP of acquisitions Amal Elwardi. Exec producing will be regular IM Global collaborator Jason Blum and Somsak Techaratanaprasert of the original film’s producer, Sahamongkolfilm.
IM Global and Automatik are in production or post on “Safe,” “Bullet to the Head,” “Welcome to the Punch,” “The Bay” and “The Lords of Salem.”
Stamm is represented by CAA and Josh McGuire at Underground Films and Management. Birke is repped by Paradigm and Robyn Meisinger at Madhouse Entertainment.
