Fantasia fest adds co-production market

Frontieres to be part of inaugural film bazaar

MONTREAL — As part of the inaugural Fantasia Film Market the fest is setting up Frontieres, the Fantasia Intl. Co-Production Market.

To debut next year at the 16th annual edition Frontieres will select 12 film projects from filmmakers from Canada, Europe, Australia and the U.S. These projects will be presented to international producers, sales agents and distributors at the market in hopes of setting up deals to complete financing for the projects.

Fantasia is devoted to genre pics and films from Asia, and is one of Montreal’s most popular fests.

“Fantasia has always been tremendously popular with its local audience and we’ve happily seen its industry presence grow over the years,” said Fantasia president Pierre Corbeil. “The launch of a film market is a natural step in the long-term vision we have for our event. Over the years, we’ve established friendships with so many fascinating talents and key players in the international industry and have long felt that we should establish a way to better connect them.”

Frontieres will take place July 26-29. Fantasia runs July 19-Aug. 7. There will also be a series of conferences during the market.
