Thesp works to promote Italian-lingo pic
Robert De Niro is going the whole hog to promote “Manuale d’amore 3” (Ages of Love 3), the Italian romancer in which he stars opposite Monica Bellucci.
De Niro and Bellucci are both expected to make guest appearances Feb. 18 to plug “Love” with interviews on pubcaster RAI’s Sanremo Music Festival, the annual song extravaganza that is Italy’s top-rated TV event.
Produced by Aurelio De Laurentiis, the hot romancer is a four-part pic. One episode stars De Niro as Adrian, a divorced American art history professor with a heart transplant, living in semi-seclusion in Rome when his passion is rekindled by a bella donna named Viola (Bellucci).
It is the third installment in a franchise directed by Giovanni Veronesi, which has scored a combined $45 million at the Italian B.O.
“Love” will be going out wide in Italy Feb. 25 via De Laurentiis’ Filmauro, which is also selling the film internationally.
Pic is being billed as the first movie in which De Niro acts in Italian , although this isn’t nescessarily true, since in “The Godfather: Part II” he did have dialogue in Sicilian.
Now millions of Italians are waiting to see how much of an effort De Niro will make to show off the Italiano he learned on Sanremo.
