Pics by international auteurs, thousands of Italian titles to be available digitally
Italy’s Cinecitta Luce and Telecom Italia have pacted to preserve and digitally distribute pics and documentaries in Italy’s national film archives plus several international titles.Under their longterm multi-million dollar agreement, Telecom Italia will contribute to preserving material in the historic Istituto Luce Archives in exchange for multi-platform distribution rights. Established in 1924, Istituto Luce has more than 12,000 newsreels, 6,000 docs and movies, and more than 8,000 reels of raw footage. “The agreement confirms how important Cinecitta Luce is as a cultural and industrial resource,” said its managing director Luciano Sovena. “Thanks to this deal our library will become available to 18 million people.” Starting this month, 150 films and docs from the library will become available on pay-per-view on Telecom Italia’s Cubovision web-TV service, while other content will be free. The agreement also covers some international titles from Cinecitta Luce, which is also an arthouse theatrical distributor.
