E1, Metropolitan, Telemunchen among buyers
BERLIN — Glen Basner’s FilmNation has secured a raft of key territory deals on upcoming Salman Rushdie adaptation “Midnight’s Children,” helmed by Deepa Mehta, including E1 in Blighty, Metropolitan in France and Telemunchen in Germany.Pic, which began production on Feb. 6, also secured pre-sales in Spain (DeAPlaneta), Australia and New Zealand (Village Roadshow), South Korea (Unikorea), Benelux (Paradiso) and Switzerland (Ascot Elite). Further sales closed in Eastern Europe (EEAP), Greece (Odeon), Hong Kong (WEG), Iceland (Sam Films), Israel (Lev Films), Latin America (Sun Distribution), Indonesia (PT Amero), Malaysia (WEG), Philippines (Multivision), Singapore (Multivision) and Taiwan (SSG). David Hamilton is producing while Echo Lake Ent.’s Dough Mankoff and Andrew Spaulding, and Blue Ice Ent.’s Steven Silver and Neil Tabatznik are exec producing. FilmNation also locked a deal on Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz starrer “Gambit” at the EFM, selling the hotly anticipated title to Alliance Films for Canada and its subsids Momentum Pictures in Blighty and Aurum in Spain.
