Bruce McDonald to direct ‘Highway’

Canadian helmer attached to supernatural thriller

EXCLUSIVE: Canadian heavyweight helmer Bruce McDonald is attached to direct the $25 million supernatural thriller “Dark Highway” for Palomar Pictures and Foundation Features.

Pic, which will lense in Canada, is penned by Christopher Kyle and produced by Palomar’s Sigurjon Sighvatsson (“Killer Elite”) and Foundation’s Rob Merilees (“Just Friends”).

Story follows a man being chased who is trying to get to a certain place in one day. He doesn’t know whether the situation is real or his imagination.

Pic is expected to go into production early next year and is at the advanced negotiation stages for casting.

“I’m excited to bring Bruce to an international mainstream audience,” said Sighvatsson. “It will be great to see him direct this elevated drama.”

McDonald, whose latest pic “Hard Core Logo 2” will screen at Toronto, is also part of an industry master class being offered at the fest today, where emerging filmmakers, film students and industry delegates will have the chance to learn from the Canadian maverick.

McDonald’s other credits include “Trigger,” “Queer as Folk” and “Highway 61.”
