Robin Wright joins Arab narrative film jury
British documentarian Nick Broomfield will head the Doha Tribeca Film Festival’s first documentary competition jury.He will serve alongside Moroccan filmmaker Hakim Belabbes and Istanbul Film Festival director Azize Tan. The jury for Arab narrative films includes U.S. thesp Robin Wright, Lebanese thesp Carmen Lebbos, Singaporean filmmaker Eric Khoo and Bosnian helmer Jasmila Zbanic, joining Syrian helmer Mohammed Malas. The Doha Film Institute, the umbrella under which the fest operates, announced a slew of special screenings, including David Fine’s doc “Salaam Dunk” that looks at the sport of basketball through the eyes of next generation Iraqi women, Asif Kapadia’s Formula One racing doc “Senna,” Broomfield’s “Sarah Palin: You Betcha!” and Gareth Huw Evans’ Toronto Midnight Madness winner “The Raid.” A special screening of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Jeff Zimbalist’s music and dance docu “Bollywood — The Greatest Love Story Ever Told” will also feature at the fest. Antonio Banderas, composer James Horner, vfx master and director of Weta Digital Joe Letteri, helmers Kapadia, Luc Besson, Morgan Spurlock and Nadine Labaki, and cinematographer Christopher Doyle will participate in the Doha Talks panels and masterclasses. The fest runs Oct. 25-29.
