Pic will be based at Sydney’s Fox Studios and locations and vfx work will also be done Down Under, which is getting a good reputation for 3D work and recently won the 3D component of the final Harry Potter series and the BBC “Walking With Dinosaurs” 3D pic.
“Gatsby” is a Bazmark production backed by Warners and has a reported budget of $120 million. It is good news for the local industry, which has not other international prods skedded to shoot here due to the recent strength in the Aussie dollar.
” ‘The Great Gatsby’ will be a boon for the NSW film industry, particularly given Baz Luhrmann’s commitment to maximizing use of local cast, crew and visual effects expertise,” said NSW premier Kristina Kenneally, announcing the pic on Saturday.
