Va-va-va groom!

Men can be clothes horses too

What James Franco wears to co-host the Oscars could be a real eye-opener. In the wake of his recent gender-bending appearances at Sundance and on the cover of Candy magazine, it’s possible that Anne Hathaway won’t be the only fashion show.

Too often the guys are simply overlooked, but…

“There’s pressure on men, too,” says Cameron Silver, owner of Decades. “They have less props to use. It’s what nature’s given them that dictates what they can do.”

From Javier Bardem to Jeff Bridges to Christian Bale to Jesse Eisenberg to Franco, there are a lot of handsome guys out there, and the fashion houses are aggressively pursuing the men. And Colin Firth, say the pros, will probably wear Tom Ford.

“Ford is so much about classic Clark Gable-esque glam,” observes “Entertainment Tonight’s” commentator Cojo. “The ‘Social Network’ guys will probably wear black on black. Younger guys are going for monochromic looks in Prada, Armani — edgier looks. They don’t want to be confined into a tux that they think is from their father’s generation.”

And with studs, cufflinks, rings and bracelets, men are discovering jewelry. Brad Pitt has led the way for style-conscious men with designer David Yurman. Justin Bieber wore a black diamond Yurman ring to this year’s Globes.

Then there’s the grooming: the hair cut, the facial scruff.

“Johnny Depp is one of the trendsetters in this,” says stylist Laurent Dufourg, owner of Salon Prive. “This year men are wearing shags, longer lengths and layered. And the roughness of an unshaven beard is very sexy.”

“Guys like this scruffy, bad boy look because women respond to it,” adds stylist Robert Verdi. “It’s not that the guys like the way they look. It’s that they like that they get laid.”
