Critics’ groups continue to fall in line as the National Society of Film Critics selected “The Social Network” for four 2010 awards, including picture.
“Network” haul also included kudos for helmer David Fincher, scribe Aaron Sorkin and thesp Jesse Eisenberg.
Society’s actress honor went to Giovanna Mezzogiorno in “Vincere,” with supporting thesp laurels going to Geoffrey Rush for “The King’s Speech” and Olivia Williams for “The Ghost Writer.” Olivier Assayas’ “Carlos” got the nod for foreign-language film, while Charles Ferguson’s doc “Inside Job” took the honors for nonfiction film. Cinematography award went to “True Grit.”
NSFC also issued a statement calling for a re-examination of the MPAA rating system and another condemning Iran’s recent sentencing of Iranian directors Jafar Panahi and Mohammad Rasoulof for propaganda against the regime.
