Gravitas Ventures, one of the industry’s leading VOD distributors, has hired Chad Miller as director of business development after a six-year stint at AT&T U-verse Television.
Gravitas, which distribs more than 400 titles per year on a revenue-sharing basis, announced the hire Wednesday. Miller told Variety that his key task will be servicing the Gravitas output deals with the 65 cable systems and 12 digital platforms — each with a different menu structure — in assisting the distribs with enabling customers to find titles reliably. Recent Gravitas titles that have received strong responses include “The Matador’s Mistress” and doc “American: The Bill Hicks Story.” Miller helped build AT&T U-verse. He previously worked at iN Demand, where he supervised the scheduling of what was then known as NVOD (or near video-on-demand) and PPV content. Five-year-old Gravitas is owned by founder Nolan A. Gallagher and is financed by cash flow. Gallagher’s a panelist at the Variety Venture Capital and New Media Summit on July 8 at the BevHilton.
