3D Society chapters pledge cooperation
American and Korean members of the International 3D Society have signed a memorandum of understanding pledging mutual cooperation on content production, marketing, distribution and information sharing among member companies in the two countries.
Execs and government officials expect the agreement to bolster Korea’s 3D industry. I3DS members in that country include Korea Telecom, the EBS educational broadcast network and satcaster Skylife. U.S. members include Sony, Disney and DreamWorks Animation.
The signing ceremony between the two nations’ I3DS chapters took place at DreamWorks Animation on Friday.
Among the speakers was See Joong Choi, chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, the equivalent of the FCC. He urged support for 3D content production and technology in Korea.
KCC director Yong Su Oh pointed to a shortage of 3D content in Korea compared to the U.S. and encouraged cooperation between the two countries’ 3D industries to promote the biz in Korea.
A second agreement was signed between the two I3DS chapters and the Korea Radio Promotion Association to encourage educational programs and exchanges. Dr. Doo Hwan Choi, chairman Korea’s I3DS chapter and CTO of Korea Telecom, which co-sponsored the ceremony, said the society’s educational programs will provide the kinds of opportunities and program development required by the burgeoning business.
