Top-selling Wii games show Nintendo’s dominance

While the Wii was a Mario runaway success for Nintendo, the biggest criticism about the system was the lack of big third-party games. Now a new compilation of the console’s top-selling software is dramatically underscoring that complaint.

Of the top 20 selling games for the Wii, 13 were made by Nintendo. Among third-party publishers, Ubisoft was the big winner, thanks largely to its music games – “Just Dance” and “Michael Jackson: Experience”.

The numbers were collected by Nintendo Power magazine – and reflect only individually available titles. (That’s why the mega-popular “Wii Sports” isn’t on the list.)

That said, here are the Wii’s best-selling games (in millions):

  1. Wii Play 13.04
  2. Mario Kart Wii 10.64
  3. Super Mario Bros. Wii 8.36
  4. Wii Fit w/ Balance Board 8.15

  6. Wii Fit Plus w/ Balance Board 5.35
  7. Super Smash Bros.: Brawl 5.28
  8. Just Dance 2 5.09
  9. Super Mario Galaxy 4.38
  10. Link’s Crossbow Training 3.47
  11. Mario Party 8 3.47
