Some of the biggest stars on YouTube are about to get even bigger.
Management agency The Collective, which represents Internet sensations including Fred and the Annoying Orange, has struck a deal with Blip.tv that will extend their online footprint beyond YouTube onto new sites.
As part of the deal, Lucas Cruikshank, who portrays the helium-voiced Fred, will create a new animated series based on the popular character with producers Kate Boutilier and Eryk Casemiro (“Rugrats”).
Since emerging as one of the biggest draws on YouTube, Cruikshank has since starred in a theatrical release “Fred: The Movie,” which will spawn a sequel.
Another new series will be created by a second YouTube property, FreddieW.
“This partnership is one more step in the realization of our plans to provide creative talent with a 360-degree solution to build their brands in the digital space,” said Michael Green, CEO and founder of The Collective.
While none of Collective’s clients, who together amass as much as 200 million views, will be leaving YouTube, their presence on Blip.tv will facilitate their deployment on other platforms including iTunes, Facebook, Verizon FiOs and Roku. Collective delivers the talent while Blip.tv handles ad sales and distribution.
