At this year’s CES, television manufacturers shined the bulk of their spotlight on connected TVs and the variety of apps that were on the way for the sets. At Samsung, though, customers are already embracing those apps in a big way.
The company has announced that 2 million apps have been downloaded from its marketplace since it launched last year. And the rate of adoption is escalating fast.
It was just 53 days prior, in fact, that Samsung hit the 1 million mark for downloaded apps. And both milestones were hit within a single year.
“This achievement and the short period in which it was achieved demonstrate the rapidly growing popularity of applications and content for Smart TVs,” said Mr. Sangchul Lee, Senior Vice President of Samsung’s Visual Display Business.
Among the most frequently downloaded apps were offerings from YouTube, Hulu Plus, ESPN Next Level, AccuWeather, Google Maps and Texas Holdem.
