Sony, Lovefilm ink PS3 pact in Germany

PS3 service launched in U.K. in November

BERLIN — Sony and Lovefilm, Europe’s largest online entertainment subscription service, have extended their distribution pact to bring PlayStation 3 to Germany.

Sony Computer Ent. Europe and Lovefilm’s move to expand their offering in Europe follows the launch of the PS3 service in the U.K. in November and marks the most significant extension to date of Lovefilm’s direct-to-TV rollout, which began in the U.K. last year, when it launched on Sony Bravia Internet Video TVs, Blu-ray players and Blu-ray Home Theater kits.

“The extension of our partnership with Sony beyond the U.K. is a significant move in expanding our digital home entertainment service internationally,” said Lovefilm chief exec Simon Calver. “PS3 already has a strong customer base in Germany, which will now be able to benefit from our vast collection of titles that can be streamed directly to their living rooms.”

The service will be available on the XrossMediaBar on all Internet- connected PS3s, providing Lovefilm’s German subscribers with access to hundreds of films from major studios and independents alike.
