System is company's first standalone software-only product

Quantel has released Pablo PA, the company’s first standalone software-only product. The system is designed to help users maximize the value of their Quantel eQ, iQ or Pablo suites by handling conforms, preparation and workflow. It allows the main suite to concentrate on client-focused work. As a standalone system, Pablo PA also offers non-Quantel-owning facilities a way to benefit from Quantel post tools. It has all the Pablo V5 color, multi-layer timeline effects, import, export, archive and conform tools, as well as the Stereo3D toolset.

Production and post gear maker Brick House Video has launched BHV Broadcast, a sister company to manage intl. sales and marketing. In addition to selling Brick House Video’s products, the new unit will also market its own range of camera-based products such as Video Ghost, a phantom power system, and TallyHo!, a multi-camera wireless tally system.

With the Jim Cameron-produced underwater 3D opus “Sanctum” currently on screens around the world, the spotlight is on aquatic production. So enter Element Technica, a 3D rig design outfit, which has announced a new configuration for its Technica 3D Neutron rig. Mounted with Silicon Imaging SI-2K cameras, it can be enclosed in the purpose-built Neutron BORG 3D underwater housing system from HydroFlex, which makes it available for rental.

Codex Digital technology has been used in tandem with Colorfront’s On-Set Dailies system during the production “Styria,” a Hungarian feature said to be the first film shot with the Arri Alexa camera in the Arriraw format. The workflow enabled the filmmakers to capture full 2880×1620 pixel resolution and to quickly produce and grade dailies for review and generate archival media. “Styri” is a horror film inspired by a 19th century vampire tale by Irish novelist Sheridan LeFanu and helmed in Hungary by Maurichio Chernovetzky and Mark Devendorf .
