Paul Goldman, founder of music/sound design house Ear Goo Inc. and design studio Element, has partnered with former MTV Networks exec Matt Giulvezan to launch The Goo, a boutique to create content for TV, film, web and mobile.Gotham-based The Goo’s three units include Action Goo (concept and live-action production), Eye Goo (editorial, design and motion graphics) and Ear Goo (music, sound design and mixing). Additionally, The Goo has acquired design firm Spek Studios, whose founders, Reno Diaz and Rene Avalos, will serve as Eye Goo’s creative director and art director, respectively. Spek’s work includes the promo campaign of the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards featuring Eminem, Drake and Justin Bieber; ads for ESPN and Comcast; and music videos for Kanye West. **** BBC picks Quantel for new production center The BBC will beef up its MediaCityUK development at Salford Quays with a Quantel Enterprise sQ system. The technology will support regional production as well as production of BBC’s Newsround kidvid service. The system is equipped with 570 hours of HD storage and supports desktop shot selection and editing application — including nine sQ Edit Plus craft editors and seven Final Cut Pro editors,
