Circle partners with MRQE
The New York Film Critics Circle has partnered with movie-review database MRQE.com to relaunch the NYFCC’s website, now positioned as a destination for consumers and film buffs.
New incarnation includes up-to-date links to film reviews of current releases by NYFCC members, as well as a blog, social- media elements and other bells and whistles.
Latest version of the site provides a potential spotlight for the criticism of its approximately 30 members, with the journalism landscape continuing to prove unstable as old-school institutions grapple with new-media shifts in distribution.
Linked to MRQE (which stands for Movie Review Query Engine), the NYFCC site won’t get users beyond the paywalls that guard content on the sites for some media outlets.
New chair of NYFCC is John Anderson, who has written for a number of publications including Variety. He takes the place of outgoing chair Armond White of the New York Press.
NYFCC was established in 1935. Activities for the org include a roster of annual awards that this year was led by feature winner “The Social Network.”
