Movie Ticket, Microsoft launch tix service

Japan's Mubichike skedded to start late August

TOKYO — Movie Ticket has joined forces with Microsoft Japan to launch Mubichike, a cloud service for advance ticket purchases due to go live late August.

Six exhib loops are participating, including Toho Cinemas and Kadokawa Cineplex, which together operate nearly 1,700 screens — half the total in Japan.

Microsoft and Movie Ticket, which is a subsid of media conglom Kadokawa, have linked exhibs using Microsoft’s Windows Agile Platform. Users can buy advance tickets using their PCs or smartphones and pick them up at theaters. They can also download music from their chosen pic for free from the service. Goal is to sell 2 million tickets in the first year of operation. – — Mark Schilling
