Facility invites producers to enjoy incentives
Hollywood-quality production has come to Mississippi, according to the execs at the new and improved Mississippi Film Studios (MFS) at Canton. The facility is now ready to serve major film and TV productions.Adding to the studio’s appeal is the state’s film incentive, a 25% cash rebate. The facility sits on 31 acres and includes a 36,000-square-foot, 40-foot-high stage. To attract projects, MFS claims to be priced competitively with the warehouse space currently used for production in the State but provides additional technology and amenities, including production support services, office space and equipment. Mississippi’s House and Senate recently passed the new incentive, which is centered on a 25% cash rebate on all Mississippi production costs, including non-local labor, as well as an additional 5% cash rebate on local Mississippi crew. Its proponents say the Mississippi incentive is now cash-equivalent to those of its neighbors in Louisiana and Georgia. Mississippi Film Studios is backed by the Canton Convention and Visitors Bureau and was developed by Los Angeles-based RoadTown Enterprises. In addition to supervising the design, RoadTown will be responsible for management, operations and marketing. RoadTown’s experience in studio design, construction, management and marketing spans 30 years and includes projects around the world. “RoadTown is fully committed to help grow the film industry in Mississippi,” said Roadtown partner Jeremy Hariton. “The state sent a strong message passing the new 25% cash-back incentive and the Mississippi Film Studios at Canton is staffed and ready to welcome productions to their new facility.” Future expansion plans include an additional 25,000 square foot stage and more production support.
