Fox delivers SAG screeners via iTunes

Contenders downloadable for free

Screen Actors Guild voters are being pursued by Fox Filmed Entertainment in the form of free downloads from Apple’s iTunes sites of a trio of Fox Searchlight titles — “Black Swan,” “127 Hours,” and “Conviction” — that are up for SAG awards.

Fox made the announcement Friday. The studio said SAG members the pics will be available until Jan. 28, the deadline for voting.

The SAG Awards will be presented Jan. 30, based on voting by the 100,000 eligible members.

Fox said the titles can be viewed on the iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, Mac or PC, or with Apple TV .

Fox noted that studios have faced security concerns and “prohibitive” costs to create and distribute screeners to organizations with large numbers of voters.

“For the first time ever, FFE’s Fox Searchlight Pictures and iTunes allow the studio to make the screening of films still in theatrical release available to all SAG members who are eligible to vote, in a more secure and cost effective manner,” the studio said

Fox also said it’s discussing a similar arrangement in the future with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, BAFTA and other organizations.

“We are thrilled at the nominations these fantastic films have received from this prestigious group, and while we would always prefer voters see films in a theaters, we realize that is not always possible, so we wanted to make sure as many voters as possible have the opportunity to screen them. iTunes enables us to make our films still in theatrical release available to a large number of important voters,” said Jim Gianopulos, Chairman and CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment.

Studio said that SAG members can obtain information on receiving the code needed to download the pics at www.foxsearchlight.com/SAG.

“Black Swan” received SAG nominations for Natalie Portman for lead actress, Mila Kunis for supporting actress and for ensemble cast. James Franco received a lead actor nod for “127 Hours” and Hilary Swank was nominated for lead actress in “Conviction.”
