Curzon, BSkyB pact on ‘Irish’

Duo plan day-and-date release in theaters and on pay TV platforms

LONDON — U.K. arthouse exhib-distrib Curzon Artificial Eye and pay TV company BSkyB have pacted to simultaneously release Ken Loach’s “Route Irish.”

The Iraq War conspiracy thriller will open on at least 20 theater screens on March 18, when it will also be made available for two weeks to BSkyB’s 10 million subscribers via movie services Sky Anytime and Sky Movies Box Office.

The deal is the fourth such collaboration between the companies, following the simultaneous releases of “Edge of Heaven,” “Julia” and “Life During Wartime.”

In addition, the film will be made available day-and-date on VOD services Curzon On Demand and FilmFlex.

Route Irish,” which was scripted by long-time Loach partner Paul Laverty, preemed in competish at the Cannes Film Festival in May. The pic, described by one reviewer as a ” ‘Death Wish’ for the anti-war movement,” follows a former British special ops soldier, played by Mark Womack, as he tries to unravel how a friend was killed in Iraq, while working as a private-security contractor along a notoriously dangerous stretch of road near Baghdad.
