Blu-ray has its day in the Vegas sun

Stone, Mann, Luhrmann come out for CES

Oliver Stone, Michael Mann and Baz Luhrmann took the stage at Panasonic’s booth on Friday at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to help Fox Home Entertainment praise the benefits of Blu-ray. Stone sees the discs as a way to preserve film, with Blu-rays the last physical version of a film before future formats go completely digital. Mann enjoys the ability to “go back and correct every mistake” that he sees in his films with each new Blu-ray version. But Luhrmann cautioned that you can go too far with the fixes. “Preservation’s a very interesting thing,” he said. “The power of Blu-ray is so great there is potential to misuse it.” He added that it can easily wind up looking “like your friend had too much surgery.”
