Third Floor, Framestore partner

New shingle to provide previs to Euro clients

Hollywood previsualization shingle The Third Floor is joining London vfx house Framestore to provide previs services to the European market.

The new venture, The Third Floor – London, is initially based at Framestore’s London HQ, where the two companies will share staff and tools.

First commissions include Carl Rinsch’s “47 Ronin” and Marc Forster’s “World War Z,”

“Our partnership with Framestore enables us to help directors and their entire crews maintain and realize their vision from early development through to the final visual effects through a collaborative and efficient process,” said Third Floor COO/creative director Chris Edwards.

“This is a genuinely exciting venture that will be a serious boost to the burgeoning European film market,” added Framestore CEO William Sargent. “I have long been an admirer of The Third Floor team and was extremely impressed by their previs work on Spielberg’s “War Horse.” We have a shared passion for filmmaking, visual excellence and storytelling. And we can further harness these mutual passions by combining skills, contacts and resources.”

In Hollywood, The Third Floor has delivered digital prepro services for J.J. Abrams, James Cameron, Tim Burton, Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg, among others. Credits include “Thor,” “Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland,” “Avatar,” “Star Trek” and “Iron Man 2.”

The company’s name was coined while its founders were previsualizing “Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith” on the third floor of a building at George Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch.

Framestore won the Best Visual Effects Oscar for its work on “The Golden Compass” and has been nommed by the Academy for creature and vfx work across the Harry Potter films.
