Intl. 3D Society sets awards show

Org will give out its 3rd Creative Arts honors

Fifteen 3D categories have been selected for the third annual Creative Arts Awards of the International 3D Society. Awards co-chair Lenny Lipton made the announcement.

The show will to be held on February 2, 2012, at Hollywood’s Chinese Theatre and will feature red-carpet arrivals before the ceremony, as well as highlights of upcoming 3D productions. Viewers equipped with 3D TV sets at home will be able to watch on 3net, the 3D network from Sony, Discovery and IMAX. The in-theater audience will watch using XPAND 3D’s active shutter glasses.

The awards will honor the best in 3D theatrical, television and videogame productions. Categories include live action 3D feature of the year, animated 3D feature of the year, stereography for both live action and animation, 3D electronic broadcast media for both live sports and entertainment, and 3D video game.

“I3DS has created industry and public awareness of three-dimensional media with (this show),” said Lipton. “The creative people in motion pictures, television and advertising, who have made the best use of 3D, will be recognized for their achievements by their peers and the public.”

“This year’s 3D films, TV and other content platforms are achieving extraordinary new levels of artistic and technical quality, said I3DS prexy Jim Chabin. “The awards will be the opportunity for us all to recognize the creative professionals and organizations responsible and record for history this year’s accomplishments.”

“The theme for the evening is ‘Your World in 3D,'” said 3D Society chairman and DreamWorks Animation head of production development Jim Mainard. “This is a timely theme given the proliferation of 3D from the theater to the home and most recently to mobile.”
