Stereo 3D rig provider Element Technica has debuted the Atom, a rig custom-designed for the Red Epic digital camera. The unit is able to accommodate full-sized PL and PV prime lenses as well as smaller zooms like the Angenieux Optimo 16-42mm or 30-80mm. Weighing 13 pounds, the magnesium Atom model, rigged with a pair of RED Epics, provides a full 5K-3D beamsplitter system weighing as little as 36 pounds. It is also available constructed in aluminum. The system’s starting price is $64,000… More Red camera support is coming from post-production tools provider Assimilate, which announced record sales and revenue of its Scratch DI system. Anticipating the release of the Red Epic, Assimilate has begun working with 5K test footage shot by the first Epic users, including New York-based OffHollywood. The company plans to ship Scratch with full Epic support when Red makes the final SDK available.
